Charleston, SC Update

America's Warrior Partnership

“As the Charleston, SC area enters into its second year for Operation Deep Dive, we are starting to take a look at our local community and the resources that are available to our Veteran community. We have begun a collaboration through a data-sharing agreement engaging John-Mark Bell with United Way Association of South Carolina to provide us data from their 2-1-1 database. 2-1-1 is such an indispensable service that is provided free to most communities nationwide and is managed by local community agencies like United Way. The 2-1-1 service connects individuals with agencies who are providing a needed service at low or no cost to that person. Anyone can use the service. Most 2-1-1 call centers are open 24/7 and even have the capacity to translate in multiple languages. We are so grateful that United Way Association of South Carolina has been so receptive to our request to pull the 2-1-1 information from their database to assist us with this community-based research initiative. Capturing what kinds of resources, services, and unmet needs are in our area will help the research team find out what we are doing well in the Charleston area and where we can improve as a community. We look forward to continuing this important work with 2-1-1 throughout Operation Deep Dive.
