Dear Reader,
Thank you for being a part of the mission to partner with communities to prevent veteran suicide with America’s Warrior Partnership (AWP) in 2024. I wanted to share an update on how working together we are doing better for our nation’s veterans and their loved ones.
In 2024, 8,382 new warriors have been proactively engaged and 14,428 needs have been successfully resolved in collaboration with our local and national network of partners across the country. The top needs identified in 2024 have been related to housing, employment, benefits, and healthcare.
We have screened more than 1,902 individuals for suicidal ideations through the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP). Within 30 days of being connected with AWP, of those screened, 379 had disclosed some level of suicide risk. 94% of those engaged by AWP were not seeking access to behavioral/mental health which makes proactive outreach so important.
At AWP, suicide prevention is not a stand-alone program. It is the outcome of best-in-class service, collaborative care, compassion, and productive partnerships that begin with a trusted, meaningful relationship. We cannot do this important work without you.
As we continue our diligent work, we encourage you to continue spreading the word about AWP. Whether you are referring a veteran, donating, or following along on social media, you are a part of this impact.
We greatly appreciate your support to ensure those who served our country have the best quality of life which in turn prevents suicide and builds stronger communities across the country.
Together, we can do better!
Best Regards,
Jim Lorraine
