A Navajo Veteran's Journey to 100% Disability Rating

Long wait times, bureaucratic hurdles, and a lack of clear communication can make obtaining disability benefits feel overwhelming. At Diné Naazbaa Partnership (DNP), we are dedicated to alleviating these burdens and providing unwavering support to our veterans. We understand the importance of timely assistance and its profound impact on their quality of life.

Regina Lewis, a former Army SGT ('82 to' 88), first contacted DNP in October 2022. She sought assistance in increasing her disability rating.

With the help of DNP Case Coordinator Karen Shirley, Regina submitted her claim to the VA. Unfortunately, months passed without any updates, leaving Regina in a state of uncertainty.

Ever wondered what $10 could do? It can save the lives of veterans like the one you're reading about in this story. Donate $10 a month and help us reach veterans before a crisis occurs. Together, we can do better. Our veterans deserve better.

However, in April 2023, a glimmer of hope appeared when she received direction from DNP about a local VA event. Determined to follow up on her claim, Regina attended the event and re-filed her paperwork. This action finally brought her peace of mind, knowing her claim was actively in the system.

Soon after, Regina began receiving appointments at the VA hospital in Albuquerque, NM, signaling progress in her journey. By the end of June, DNP followed up with her to find out that her disability rate increase had been accepted. Regina's perseverance had paid off—she was now at a 100% disability rating. With the aid of the DNP team, we are excited to see Regina enjoy a better quality of life.
