C. is a Post-9/11 combat Navy veteran who was homeless. C. was enrolled in Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) by 90Works. The SSVF program referred her to Panhandle Warrior Partnership (PWP) for employment and additional supports. Outreach Specialist Rockwell completed a standard intake and holistic assessment which identified additional needs and services required by the veteran.
C. worked with her SSVF case manager and obtained housing; in addition, C. worked with PWP to be linked to employers eager to hire someone with her experience. Rockwell and C. worked together to complete documentation in obtaining employment. Rockwell connected her to “Suit Yourself”, a free community outreach ministry at First United Methodist Church which helps women who are on a path to economic independence, after facing personal challenges such as abusive relationships, divorce, addictions and/or health issues. They provide them with clothing and accessories to prepare them for job interviews, and/or returning to work.
She was provided different outfits that might be needed for various work positions and learned how to appropriately dress for employment. C. was offered two jobs, ending her six-month-long unemployment streak. She reported that these successes were an extreme boost to her morale and would keep her safe and off the street.
Through collaboration with multiple community partners and the relationship built through outreach and engagement efforts, C. was able to build a plan that improved her quality of life. “It is with great pride and honor that the Panhandle Warrior Partnership is able to create such positive momentum in the lives of those who have previously served or are currently serving our great nation.”
