Losing a loved one is a heart-wrenching experience, often leaving individuals overwhelmed and distraught. The need for compassionate support and practical resources becomes even more critical during such times. Permian Warrior Partnership (PWP) understands the profound impact of such losses and is dedicated to standing by our community members, providing the necessary assistance and guidance to navigate these challenging moments.
We recently had the privilege of assisting Robert Borden*, a military family member, during an incredibly difficult time. Robert's wife, who grew up in a military family, had passed away unexpectedly while out of state. While struggling with his uncertainty and grief over his late wife, Robert stressed about his financial situation. He is unemployed and living on a limited disability income, which doesn't leave much room for funeral expenses. When Robert came across PWP's Facebook page, he desperately sought a helping hand.

PWP's Outreach Coordinator, Gina, immediately stepped in to assist. She understood the urgency and connected Robert with the local Lea County City finance department in Hobbs, NM. They have an indigent program that helps county residents pay for cremation costs up to the state maximum of $1,000. Additionally, Gina connected Robert to mental health resources to support him through his grieving process.
Thanks to these efforts, Lea County covered the majority of the cremation costs, and Robert's wife's sister paid the remaining amount, including the cost of death certificates. Robert has since received his wife's ashes and death certificates, bringing her home. We hope that ending this chapter will help give Robert the necessary closure he deserves.
