Acts of kindness, no matter how small, can lead to a ripple of meaningful change for others. This ripple effect was evident in the journey of Danny Nino, an Army veteran ('76-'79), who sought a community Thanksgiving event for a nice dinner but found a lasting impact instead.
In the spirit of the holiday season, Permian Warrior Partnership (PWP) attended a Thanksgiving dinner where they served meals and connected with veterans. One such encounter was with Danny, seeking guidance on a VA claim. Danny expressed a simple wish as their relationship developed – a Christmas tree for him and his wife. In the spirit of the holiday season, the PWP team swiftly arranged a donated tree, bringing extra joy to their Christmas.
This initial meeting, centered around a small gesture, laid the foundation for a lasting connection. A few weeks later, Danny contacted PWP Case Coordinator Breanna Durner after facing financial challenges. Breanna linked Danny with a local partner in Midland, who was able to secure assistance and cover his rent for January. PWP consistently nurtures connections with veterans like Danny to ensure we are a support network they feel comfortable turning to when challenges arise.
Too many veterans and their families are suffering – to the point of taking their lives. Our passionate donors empower the lives of veterans, their families, and caregivers through our upstream approach to reach a veteran before a crisis occurs.
