Building a substantial network of partners is vital to ensure that veterans have access to resources tailored to meet their individual needs. Diné Naazbaa Partnership (DNP) accomplishes this by connecting with veterans and veteran-serving individuals in the heart of their communities. This is how the DNP team met Marvin Metteba, a Navajo veteran seeking crucial home support.
In May, DNP Community Coordination Associate Karen Shirley attended a local veteran’s chapter meeting where Marvin was present. Marvin inquired about DNP’s resources for obtaining essential roofing materials for his residence. Karen gladly agreed and told him she would do what she could. After the meeting, Karen immediately sent Marvin the Red Feather Development Group’s (RFDG) application, which provides housing assistance for Native American communities.
Marvin provided Karen with the completed application and a quote from Home Depot for the materials. Karen moved swiftly and emailed RFDG immediately with the documentation. A few weeks later, RFDG processed and approved Marvin’s request. Karen provided Marvin with the paid-in-full receipt to obtain his materials at Home Depot, which he picked up the following week. Marvin thanked DNP in person at the Korean War Veterans Celebration, stating he was incredibly grateful for the swift action and resource matching the DNP team was able to provide.
DNP is proud to have a vast network of partners, making it easier to support each veteran’s unique circumstances. The Navajo Nation is stronger when our veterans are stronger.
