The mission of Indy Warrior Partnership (IWP) is to empower our community to empower veterans because once veterans are empowered, they are able to pass on that empowerment to their fellow veterans. This was the case for Bill Barowsky, a veteran with an established relationship with IWP, who reached out to see how he could help veterans in his community through his small business.
Bill Barowsky is a Navy veteran (’95-’05) who initially contacted IWP in September. Case Coordinator Abby Pequignot continued to keep a line of contact with Bill after providing resources and support to meet his needs. Recently, Bill reached out to Abby wanting to give back to his community. Bill and his wife own a horse boarding/riding facility called 4 Locos Ranch in Indianapolis. Knowing this, Abby looked through the IWP network to find veterans who could benefit from spending time outdoors with animals. Equestrian therapy can be a holistic therapy, especially for veterans. Abby organized a “chore day” where IWP and some local veterans helped Bill replace the fencing at his ranch. This activity gave the veterans great pride and strengthened their ties to the community.
Abby also referred Bill to the America’s Warrior Partnership Corporate Veteran Initiative, which empowered him with tools for his veteran-owned business. He was happy to tell Abby that thanks to this guidance, he is currently working on establishing a non-profit called Horses for Heroes. We are excited to continue our relationship with Bill and support him in his endeavors to give back to veterans in the Indy community.
